As much as I love being a Windsor wedding photographer, once in awhile it is nice to escape the cold winter weddings. I was so ready to shoot an amazing destination Cuban wedding!
How We Met (Our Clients’)
We first met Tammy and Mike while we were shooting in the Dominican Republic. Through that trip, we became friends. We are so honoured when they asked us to come along to Cuba to capture their destination wedding.
The wedding was held at The Pullman Resort in Cayo Coco, Cuba. Approximately 4-5 months ago Hurricane Irma swept through. It hit the Carribean and absolutely devastated many of the Carribean islands. Cayo Coco is actually a small island off the coast of Cuba. Sadly, it was severely damaged by the hurricane. Tammy and Mike were left with having to decide to proceed with the wedding at The Pullman or possibly change plans. The resort said they would be up and running in time for their wedding and they stay true to their word. They reopened in November, just weeks after the hurricane. They did a fabulous job in repairing the damage. The resort was beautiful, as was the beach!
Destination weddings are great. They are relaxed and hey are fun, its normally a very easy process. However, destination weddings can also be unpredictable. The first few days in Cuba, the weather was fantastic. Then the island got hit with very high winds and rain. The wedding day rolled around and the winds and rain had not passed. The decision was made to postpone the wedding till the following day, in hopes of better weather. The next day the weather looked a bit better. But, when we woke up tit was to o high winds and then it started to rain again.
The Big Day
Tammy and Mike decided to forge ahead and get married. The rain picked up just as the wedding started. At this point, everyone was committed to it. Tammy and Mike said their vows, exchanged the rings under a beautiful gazebo on the beach with the rain, wind and all. We made a decision to postpone the wedding photos until our last day there. The weather report looked great for that day!
Despite the bad weather, we still had to celebrate. We all headed to the lobby bar, where drinks were shared, an impromptu Zumba class happened. Everyone gathered to celebrate Tammy and Mike. A quick stop at the Cigar Bar, before the wedding dinner was also a fun stop. The wedding dinner was held at the al la carte Japanese restaurant, where our chefs entertained and made a fantastic meal! Even though it wasn’t the ideal weather, everyone still had a great time. A few days later, everyone redressed and we shot all their creative photos on the beach and around the resort! We wish Mike and Tammy a lifetime of happiness and we are so grateful we got to join you on this fantastic trip!
